Goal Templates (or Types - as they are also known in Cascade) are very important as they allow users to create and label different types of goals that can be used to group goals either on one plan, or from all over the system. Also, once a goal has been created and a goal template selected, goal templates allow you to add information to the custom attribute fields assigned to each Goal Template. This functionality makes it easier to collate goals when reporting by choosing a single goal template or to filter using a response from a custom attribute field within one of the goal templates.

Goal Template ExampleTo create a goal template, follow the steps below...

  • Click on your initials in the circle in the bottom left corner of the screen
  • Within the Admin section of the menu that appears, (you must be a system Administrator to access this section of the menu) click on the 'Customize Fields' option
  • Here you will find a list of Goal Templates, before adding another scroll through the list to see if a similar one already exists. You can click in and out of the goal templates by clicking on the title to enter, then '/ Customize Fields /' near the top left to back out to the menu
  • To add a new goal template, click the 'Add New' button near the top right of screen

Creating a Goal Template - Cascade will provide several default custom attribute fields such as 'More Details', 'Weight' and 'Budget'. If you do not wish to include these fields within your goal template, click on the 'x' to the right of each field in the 'Preview of Goal Designer' section to the right of the screen. If you wish to add further custom attribute fields to your goal template, click on the 'Add Attribute' button near the top left. An 'Add Attributes' window will appear and offer you several options to add attributes.

If you think there is already an existing attribute being used in another goal template, it is a great idea to check under the 'Existing Attributes' tab before creating a new one. This will allow you to select one column to present information when reporting across several different goal types

The add attribute options are as follows...

  • Rich Text Box - A large text box with formatting capabilities to collect large amounts of text
  • Text Box - A smaller text box, without formatting options to collect short text
  • Number - A text field that will only allow numbers to be entered into it. Any unit of measurement can be selected to be presented with the numbers entered
  • Drop-down List - Lists can be created so that users can select from them to categorize their goals. Lists also have a multi-select function for times when more than one response is required
  • Radio Button - Is used to select one option or another from a presented list
  • Checkbox - Allows users to check a box to make their selection from the list created when setting up the goal template
  • Formula - Formulas can add, subtract, multiply, or divide number fields to present new numbers, or count down the date to present an indicator when a goal due date is nearing
  • Date - Allows the user to select a date that might be relevant to the goal type, or the actions within the goal

If the option to make goals private has been turned on in the system settings, you will also see a 'Restrict Visibility' checkbox as an available attribute.
