After writing an update on a goal, you can return to that update to edit or delete it. Both of these actions will be logged. Edited updates will have an '(edited)' label in the goal's Activity log, and users will be able to click on 'Show History' next to each update field to see the previous versions. Deleted updates have their content replaced with a note saying 'Content no longer available', and a '(show)' label to allow users to see what the update was before it was removed.
Sometimes, editing an existing update is more effective than adding a new one. If you have one or two additional details to add to an update you've already written, consider editing that update rather than creating a new update just to capture that information.
