By default, all plans in Cascade are visible and accessible to all users. This means that any user can visit a plan through the Planner, regardless of their role. What each user is able to do within that plan, in terms of adding or moving goals, is determined by the plan settings; only Plan Contributors and administrative users can edit a plan.

To view the current Sharing Settings of a plan:

  • Open the Planner and access the desired plan by clicking on the plan title
  • Navigate to the top-right corner of the plan and click on the '...' icon
  • Click on 'Plan Settings' from the list that appears
  • Click on 'Sharing Settings'
    • If the 'Public' icon is highlighted, then the plan is currently available to all users but editable only by users listed in the 'Plan Contributors' box
    • If the 'Private' icon is highlighted (as below), then the plan is only available to and editable by the users listed in the 'Visible to' box - these are the Plan Contributors

Goals that are aligned to private plans are still accessible to their owners and co-owners through Snapshots, Dashboards, and the GoalDeck. However, these user(s) won't be able to see the rest of a private plan if they have not been made a Plan Contributor. To promote a user to plan contributor, a current contributor or administrator will need to add that person to the 'Visible to' box in the Sharing Settings.

Private plans are visible only to Plan Contributors and administrative users with the Strategy permission.

If a user has been made a Plan Contributor in a private plan, the plan will have a padlock icon next to it in the Planner list.

If a user is not a Plan Contributor, the plan will still have the padlock icon but will also be greyed out and labelled 'Private Plan' in the Planner list.

Similar to private goals in a public plan, public goals within a private plan will be visible to the following users:

  • The owner and co-owner(s) of the goal
  • The owner and co-owner(s) of any parent goals
  • Administrative users with the Strategy permission
  • Plan contributors
  • The owner(s) of any tasks on the goal
