Cascade Glossary of Terms
Note: As software is becoming more customizable, your database may use different terminology than that of the Knowledge Base.
Add Update - In Cascade, you might click on the button in the sidebar to add comments, monthly updates, progress reports, risk updates, etc. However, throughout the Knowledge Base we will be referring to this as the Add Update button.
Child Goal - A goal at the level down.
Focus Area - The groupings you choose to align your goals to within the planner pages will be known by one name throughout your Cascade database. You might have labeled them as Priorities, Pillars, Strategic Goals, Focus Points, Objectives, etc, but the default name for them which we will use throughout the knowledge base is Focus Area.
Goal - Cascade's standard definition for any action within the system. You might call them actions, projects, deliverables, objectives, priorities, to name a few, but as a default setting and how we explain within the Knowledge Base, these items will be referred to as Goals.
Goal Hub - An expansion of the sidebar area accessed by clicking on the goal title and then the blue circle with the '<' in the top left corner of the sidebar. The Goal Hub contains the goal's details and custom attributes along the left side of the screen, at the top there are 4 tabs for the 4 sections. Activity: This details the goal's activity log. Tracking: This allows you to edit the goal's target and expected progress. Tasks: Details the goal's tasks or allows you to add/edit tasks. Alignment: Details the goal's parent and child alignments.
Goal Type/Template - Each goal can be assigned a goal type/template (the same thing - is named as both within the system). Each goal type/template can be used to filter on any page, or be used to collect additional information within the custom attributes assigned to each goal type/template.
Goal Status - Your goal progress at any given point will be represented by a goal status; the different types of goal status are outlined below:
-
- Not Started: Prior to your goal's start date, your goal will display the status of Not Started.
- On Track: While your goal is within its start and due dates, if your goal's progress is inside of the expected progress it will display as On Track.
- Behind: While your goal is within its start and due dates, if your goal's progress is outside of the expected progress it will display as Behind.
- Overdue: If your goal's due date has past and your goal is not marked as Complete, the status will display as Overdue.
- Complete: Once your goal's progress has reached its target (or reached its target and due date in the case of goals set up with the completion criteria 'Target and Deadline Reached'), your goal will display as Complete.
